Willing to Learn

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God May your gracious spirit. Lead me to the land of uprightness” Psalms 143:10 NIV

Using our own wisdom, we plan our way, but it may not reflect God’s will. The prayer for God to teach us is an act of obedience to him and his purpose for our lives. The bible says that King Saul was replaced by David, the writer of this Psalm, because God said, ’David son of Jesse is a man after my own heart, for he will do everything I want him to do.’" Acts 13: 21-22. No matter his many failings, David always set out to know and do God’s will.

It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can know God’s will and achieve holiness. The disciples were willing to follow Jesus but often failed him because of their human weakness. It is only when they got the Holy Spirit indwelling in them that they were fully empowered with knowledge to do God’s will. Ephesians 9:1 says,” He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure that He planned in Him”

May the Lord grant us the strength to know and do His will that we might live each day to the glory of His name.
