The Fathomless Mystery of Life

Maze

How do you successfully navigate the maze called life?

“The mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:26-27 E.S.V)

Some people are born and live a life they cannot make sense of; they behold the beauty of nature, and also the ugliness of life. While some are rich, others are wretchedly poor. While some are perfectly formed, intelligent and attractive, others are handicapped physically or mentally. While some encounter honor, respect, love and devotion, others are treated with injustice and suffer neglect, abuse, cruelty and pain.

Life only makes sense when we think of eternal life that starts with the indwelling of Christ in us. Both adversity and privilege can work for or against our prospects for immortality. Wherever we are in this world, we need to see life itself as grace; a chance offered for God to reveal to reveal to us the mystery of redemption, a chance offered to live a life of purpose.  A chance that will end with our life on earth.

"Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace." ~Frederick Buechner, Now and Then
