Famous Last Words

Death

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42 N.I.V)

When we are faced by eminent death we expose our innermost fear or hope. “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”. These were the famous last words of the repentant second thief on the cross.

Some famous people area quoted as having said the following:

Cardinal Borgia: “I have provided in the course of my life for everything except death, and now alas, I am to die unprepared”

Elizabeth the First, “All my possessions for one moment of time”

Anne Bolyn (Wife of Henry the Eighth who had her executed): ” O God, have pity on my soul. O God, have pity on my soul”

D. L. Moody (Evangelist): “I see earth receding; heaven is opening. God is calling me.”

When John Owen, the great Puritan, lay on his deathbed, he had his secretary write to a friend,” I am still in the land of the Living.” Then Owen cried, “Stop! Change that to say “I am yet in the hand of the dying, but I soon hope to be in the land of the living.”

Truth is we are in the land of the dying. Death will certainly come to you one day. What are your likely thoughts on that day?

Cool"Death is not extinguishing the light from the Christian; it is putting out the lamp because the dawn has come".
