The “Righteous” Are Not Innocent Of the Deeds of the Wicked

Pointing

"When we point one finger at others we are pointing three fingers at ourselves".

“When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:7 N.I.V)

The self righteous Jews wanted to stone, “the woman caught sinning” red handed. However the man caught sinning with her was not subject to their justice. And nobody stopped to examine why the woman was sinning. Could it be that the society had driven her to it and continued to enable the profession in their hypocritical living?

Have you ever contemplated how various systems of justice are so unfair? How do you judge a crime without looking at the underlying cause? Is the society innocent of driving the thief or the prostitute to sin? What alternatives are there for the wretched powerless and hopeless? Should we not be thinking more of mercy rather than exacting justice?

Kahil Gibran wrote,” Oftentimes have I heard you speak of one who commits a wrong as though he were not one of you, but a stranger unto you and an intruder upon your world…. The righteous is not innocent of the deeds of the wicked…If any of you would bring judgment the unfaithful wife, let him also weight the heart of her husband in scales, and measure his soul with measurements. And let him who would lash the offender look unto the spirit of the offended. And if any of you would punish in the name of righteousness and lay the ax unto the evil tree, let him see to its roots; And verily he will find the roots of the good and the bad, the fruitful and the fruitless, all entwined together in the silent heart of the earth …”
