Standing with the Truth

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist …” Ephesians 6:14 N. I.V”

Truth is sincerity in action, character, and utterance. It proves the integrity of a person; how much he or she conforms to what is true. A true Christian lives an unwavering righteous life full of goodness. Jesus lived such a life as we read in Matthew 22:16, “And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances”. Whatever he said is our truth as given by God. In John 17:8 Jesus said, “For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me”. The bible bids us: “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace” Zechariah 8:16.

Are you wearing your belt of truth firmly buckled around your waist? Are you swayed by the opinions of others, and the circumstances? The early Roman soldier was very efficient and had several pouches on his belt for different swords, ropes, rations, and even to accommodate his precious loot such as gold and jewelry. What do you have on your belt? Do you have pouches for: faith to overcome temptations; hope and assurance in God that gives you peace and joy that dims all satisfactions from temporal thing; love for God which strengthens you against breaking all his commands; and   justice and charity for others?
