The Helmet of Salvation

helmet

“Put on salvation as your helmet…” Ephesians 6:17 N.L.T

The helmet protects the head where the brain is. People who race cars need helmets, motorcycle riders need helmets, and American football players have need of helmets. Life is dangerous: there are temptations and trials, thoughts that threaten to corrupt your mind, and false knowledge galore. You therefore need a helmet; the helmet of salvation: the helmet to protect all thoughts and knowledge. The battle against our crafty, deceitful enemy is fought and won in our minds. Those with Christ’s helmet have hope of eternal life and God’s special plan for each of us which unfolds each day.

This helmet is a good protection against the world. Joseph wore one as he bore slavery without bitterness, as he worked faithfully for his master, as he resisted temptation from the master’s wife, as he bore prison life, as he served other prisoners, as he served Pharaoh and his people, as he brought up his new family in exile, as he received and reconciled with his brothers, and as he looked forward to rest in the promised land. He kept faith in the one who does not lie, otherwise he would have despaired. Joseph believed in God, he desired the things of God, which guided his actions. Do not let your mind be confused by the fleeting desires and afflictions of the world. Let the Lord direct your ways by giving you the power to, “… demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ”. 2 Corinthians 10:5
