Why we should not compromise on our beliefs

Candle light

“All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you”. Philippians 3:15 N.L.T

I have often been with a group of relatives, friends or peers who seem to be very sure that my opinions and judgments on certain things such as politics, and life in general are exactly like theirs. Such people sometimes quote the Bible as their source.  Often the majority opinion or interpretation is very strong and tied in with their social (and spiritual) esteem and it is therefore difficult to voice my differing opinion. However I must always stay true to my convictions unless I am convinced otherwise. “Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition”. Steve Jobs

In Paul’s time Christians struggled with Jewish traditions as well as Greek and other Gentile traditions. This included issues on what was permissible in the way of food, clothing, rituals and behavior. Then and now, if we are sincere in striving for the prize, God himself reveals the truth to us as we mature in his ways. We have to cast off everything that impedes true faith as we get thoroughly instructed by the Word. In time, God will make it clear.

"The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is". Winston Churchill
