The Family that Prays Together, Stays Together

Saying grace

“How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1 NASB)

The expression “The Family that Prays together, Stays Together” coined by Al Scalpone has many variants that include actions undertaken together such as playing, eating, cooking, and so on. It is true that the more actions you undertake together, the closer you become because you get to understand the other people more. Prayer however adds another dimension. It adds God in the picture making fellowship even more effective, “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:20. When you pray for another person by name especially within their hearing, they get to know how much you care and a lot of goodwill is created.

It is not easy to maintain relationships within the nuclear family and more so for the extended family, but the more we meet together for a common purpose the closer we get. And let us always remember to open and end our events with prayer and always seek to include God’s Word.  How pleasant to enjoy peace, love and unity within the family! “For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.” (Psalm 133:3)

The family that prays together stays together; and if you stay together, you will love one another with the same love with which God loves each one of us.’ Mother Teresa
