Come and See - Part 2 - Where Jesus Lives

by Jerry Ousley

19th century black heaven

Have you ever watched one of those shows on TV that takes you on tours of where the rich and famous live? I've watched them a couple of times, but not too often, because honestly, it kind of makes me sad and angry. To me it's a shame how lavishly some of these people live. They have homes that look like hotels. They waste so much money on trivial things. They pay thousands of dollars for their clothing, manicures, haircuts, on and on . . . and that's just for the dog!

When I look around at the poverty in the world and see folks like you and me struggling to make ends meet I can't say that I feel sorry for some of these people because they only have two homes, or that they broke a nail. It's tragically funny how some of these people think they've got it hard.

We like to have our homes looking nice and neat and ready when company comes. We don't always succeed, especially when we have children at home. I've heard others say that so and so has a model home. I looked up the definition of "model" one time and it said that it was a prototype, a miniature scale, or an example to be copied. You can't live in a model. Sooner or later you're going to make a mess. I believe a home should be tidy and neat but it's also got to be lived in.

In John 1:35-51 after John the Baptist had told those in his presence to look at Jesus, stating that He was the Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world, two of his own disciples began following Jesus. Jesus noticed the two men walking behind him and turned and asked, "What are you looking for?" They told him, "We want to see where you live." Jesus responded by saying to them, "Come and see."

Right now we know that the Bible tells us that Jesus is seated by the right hand of God the Father. He lives in heaven. But there is also a spiritual place where Jesus lives. When we ask Him that same question today, "Where do you live," He continues to respond with, "Come and see." Spiritually Jesus lives somewhere we'd all like to live. He lives in these things:

He lives in salvation from the sin of the world. Adam and Eve, because of their sin, caused a curse to be placed, not only on mankind, but also the entire creation of God. This world is bound in sin. How often I have looked at majestic mountains, vast and breathtaking oceans, and magnificent creatures in the wild, only to be reminded that as beautiful as these things are now, how they must have looked before the curse of sin was placed on this world. Jesus lives in salvation freedom from the curse of sin. Even though we must continue to live here either until we pass from this life, or until the Lord comes back, we can come to Jesus' home in salvation and be free spiritually from the curse of the sin of the world.

Jesus lives in the expectation of eternal life. He has eternal life. Men have desired a way to live on and not die. But when we come to Jesus Christ we come into the promise of eternal life.

Jesus lives in the victory of knowing we can conquer and win this spiritual battle with the world, in the joy of the Lord, in true love for God and our fellow man, in peace that no one can naturally understand, and in absolute truth.

That's where Jesus lives. We can live there too. All we have to do is to ask Him where He lives. He will invite us in if we'll only accept Him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Come and see.
