Eden before the fall

By Wangari Murathe

A human being is capable of logical thought. This differentiates him from other animals.  We are intelligent, we have a conscience,  we are able to distinguish what is right or what is wrong. But as David says in Psalm 51:5, “Look, I was prone to do wrong from birth; I was a sinner the moment my mother conceived me.”

It is true that we are prone to be selfish; do what feels good to us, what makes us more powerful, or what makes us rich. But this is not our natural state. It is a fallen state. We are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26) and are capable of doing good, loving others, even to the point of self sacrifice…. But on our own steam we falter. We therefore need an outside force to keep us on the straight and narrow path of the goodness we are capable of. We need a Saviour to assist us in moving from the guilt we feel due to our state of sinfulness. We need to accept the payment Christ made to atone for our sins and move on back towards our natural state.

Wise Quotes: “Man has two great spiritual needs. One is for forgiveness. The other is for goodness”. ~Billy Graham

“Our natural state of being is joy, and it takes so much energy to think negative thoughts, to speak negative words, and to feel miserable. The easy path is good thoughts, good words, and good deeds”. ~ Rhonda Byrne
